Kirkfield began its humble beginnings in 1864. Kirkfield was settled by predominantly Scottish immigrants, hence the name Kirkfield has Scottish roots.

Kirkfield and its residents played very important roles in the early growth and development of Ontario and Canada.

Kirkfield suffered a steady decline due to several misfortunes, fires and economic setbacks after the deaths of William Mackenzie and his wife in the early part of the last century. Kirkfield has made a resurgence and is progressing to restore itself to its former glory.
